- Dress like the Romans -
Clothing in Ancient Pompeii mainly incorporate tunics, togas, stola and breeches. The clothes you wear will determine your social status and rankings, particularly for freeborn men. The people with lower ranking in the social classes like slaves will wear old scraps of rags whilst the higher ranking citizens will wear expensive clothing to show off their wealth. Different types of clothing’s represents what you are, married woman wear stolas, which is a traditional Roman garment. Senators were coloured shoes with broad stripes on their tunics.
Men and women were not allowed to wear the same thing unlike in the present time, women were forbidden to wear toga as it was only for men. Men would usually wear a toga, which is really heavy as it is made out of wool and a toga is worn in a complicated system of folds. Women usually wore a long tunic underneath their stola, which is a dress belted at the waist with a cloak on top of it. The richest women’s would wear lavish looking elegant gold and silver jewellery with diamonds and gems.
